On Soaring

Soaring birds. Downtown Toronto, Summer 2011.

So... as you might have already read on here a few days ago, my One Word for 2012 is SOAR. God gave me this word via the verse from Isaiah 40:31 which says...
... but those who hope in the LORD
          will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Since giving me this word, God has been impressing upon my heart that the key to soaring is hoping in Him! To hope... HOPE... it's my girl's favourite word... it must be rubbing off on me! :-)

Quite simple, you might say. Well, not quite that simple for this Type A personality. :-) Hoping, trusting, being patient, staying relaxed, be easy-going... well, those words just don't describe me at all! With that in mind, I had to do a little Bible study on just what hoping in the Lord means... and here's what I've uncovered.

It is God who gives me hope...
These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and strong.
~ Hebrews 6:18-19 NCV (italics mine).
I can be confident in this hope because of God's faithfulness...
The Lord can always be trusted to show mercy each morning. Deep in my heart I say, "The Lord is all I need; I can depend on (hope in) him!"
~ Lamentations 3:23-24 CEV (italics and additions mine).
The friendship I have with Christ gives me a hope that is bold...
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.
~ 2 Corinthians 3:12 NIV.
I like what I've uncovered today... it is indeed possible for this Type A personality to hope in the Lord... to soar with carefreeness... and, to trust and to be bold, both at the same time, while at it! :-)

A new habit for 2012... soaring as I hope... trusting in God to give me flight!
I’m sort of struck: A habit is what we wear. A habit is the way we wear our days.
Wear new habits and your life gets a makeover.
